How
To Change
Filter Cartridges
There
are three main options for
changing filter cartridges using the Flo King
in-tank system.
If there
are no obstructions in the tank, the first choice is simply to lean the
pump back, hand-loosen the filter screws that hold the filter cartridge(s) in
place, insert a new cartridge, then re-tighten the thumbscrews. Place the
cartridges in a bucket to drain.
The second choice is to totally remove the pump from the
tank. This is generally easily accomplished when using the Lab Series,
BX650 and
BX1200 models because these units are lightweight, relatively small, and
easy to maneuver. This method can also be used for the larger,
higher-flow-rate filter systems but requires a little more muscle. A
manual
hoist can also be used to lift the pump from its handle.
The third option is to use the Slide-In Filter Cartridge Adapter
(SIFCA),
an accessory that enables the operator to change filters without moving
the pump at all. The SIFCA is frequently used on the larger, heavier
BX3000, BX5000, BXL2500 and BXL5000 filter systems and is also available
for the BX650 and BX1200. The SIFCA is available in CPVC, polypropylene, stainless
steel, and PVDF (Kynar).
Click here to see photos showing how much in-tank space is needed to use the SIFCA. To open this PDF file, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader.
The photo at right shows the operator using the SIFCA to
change filter cartridges on a
BX5000 pump. Attached to the removable "fixture"
portion of the SIFCA is a Double Cartridge Holder and
two filter cartridges. Once the filter cartridges are changed, the pump re-primes easily. The operator simply pulls back an O-ring at
the top of the SIFCA to reveal a small hole, which purges air from the
pipe assembly. The removable portion of the SIFCA is then reintroduced to the
"receiver" section and the
pump turned on to resume filtration.
